Workforce Day out

Thomas Mountford can be seen 4th from left with the dickie bow and cigar in his hand. The Great Jesse Boot of Boots the Chemist is the other chap in a light coloured suit. This group of managers from Boots including Thomas were organising an away day for the companies workforce.
The Boots the Chemist Archive provided a copy of the picture (Thomas worked there for 40 years and worked closely with Jesse Boot).  Thomas would have only been in his early 30’s at the time of the pic but does look older than his actual age suggests. In later years Thomas moved from Darlington to Nottingham (year and reason unknown) but continued to enjoy his sport helping to re establish the game of rugby in the city and was very much involved with Jesse Boot and his wife who were very keen on staff welfare and the company with its HQ in Nottingham.  There they  had a dedicated sports ground for their employees to enjoy. There are references to Thomas being involved within the game and later as a referee and he continued to run into his 60’s coming back to Darlington to compete in the veteran race held at the Darlington sports.
