Henry ‘Jock’ Reid

Henry ‘Jock’ Reid was a former club member who was also part of the British Army like most men of this period.  Henry or Jock as he was known was an accomplished runner winning the Army 3 mile race in 1934 and was part of the team that won the North Eastern Counties in 1935.

In 1936 he won the 3mile race of the British Troops whilst being stationed in Egypt and set a mile record in the Inter services race in 1937 aged just 22.  Jock was a war hero who eventually passed on October 4th 1979 while living in Carlisle.
